Why eco?
There are so many things to consider when choosing items for your home. Carbon footprints, carbon offsets, toxicity, off gassing, organics vs. natural products, allergens, recycled materials vs. traditional, degradable vs. extended life-cycle; the list seems to grow longer every day. As much as there is debate over the benefits of a daily glass of wine, there are arguments over the priorities we should focus on when making purchase decisions for our kids.
For many it comes down to budget, some are guided by brand familiarity, and then there are the purists who are able to navigate the maze of ingredients & materials with ease, usually deciding to buy from local organic markets & avoid the whole commercial end altogether.
Like many new mums, we started to explore the reams of information relating to toxicity, organics & baby products. However when we started to read up on ‘eco-friendly’ products we began to realise that interestingly green choices aren’t always the best for sensitive skins. “Natural” products are sometimes harder on children with allergies, just as certain organic materials are less eco-friendly than others.
What we’ve tried to do on this site is offer a mix of products that meet all the objectives of a new mum.
We rank toxicity as our #1 priority, followed by our concern for the environment. We stock organic clothing as it touches the skin of your little one. We sell organic sheets, towels & mattresses for the same reason.
You may notice we also stock only a couple of brands that are not organic, natural or easily degradable; particularly in the case of toys. We stock these brands only as we feel they are not only great quality (& therefore have a longer product lifespan – if your bubba loved it, pass it on!), but these toys promote growth through learning & intellectual development.
At Eco Additions we believe strongly in starting children’s education from the earliest age. They are our future & will inherit the environmental problems created by previous generations. It will be up to our babies to fix so many of the world’s problems. Quality stimulating toys will facilitate your little one’s learning & development. Just as important as providing them with a non toxic home!

In many cases flame retardants & chemicals used to ‘sterilise’ cot mattress available in Australia have been banned overseas owing to their inherent toxicity.
It is ultimately up to us as mothers to weigh up the potential toxicity of items in our homes, with our desire to have minimal impact on our environment, whilst also providing a happy, stimulating environment for our bubbas. We want to keep them safe, at a price we can afford.
This is the driving motivation behind this site.
